Today we have another special art post! This piece comes from Chloe Donhou, an inspiring young lady who has found her healing path through honoring and accepting herself in a beautiful way. Chloe lovingly shares her experience below to empower and encourage others through her story.

scoliosis art of chloe

I have always felt the need to cover up my scoliosis as I hated the way my back looked. Wearing clothes was difficult as I felt they sat weirdly on my back. I became so annoyed with myself that I couldn’t just accept it, so I felt that having this piece done would allow me to see that it really isn’t that bad after all.

The process was completely out of my comfort zone as I had pictures taken by someone who had never seen my back before, however, it just gave me a sense of encouragement. A way that would allow me to almost take control of something that had dictated my thoughts and my dress sense. It felt amazing. The painting is now hung up on my bedroom wall and I see it every day. Where I would try my best to not look at it in fear of how bad it would get, seeing it all the time really allowed me to come to terms with it.

I accept who I am and I love me for it!

Wow, thank you Chloe! I’m proud of your willingness to address your feelings head on. Showing courage and grace by not just rising above the struggle but turning it into personal growth. This is a nice reminder that when it comes to our thoughts and feelings towards ourselves, we are in control!
